Welcome to Mikel Aristregi’s webpage

Mikel Aristregi (1975) is a freelance photographer and filmmaker specialized in social issues and human rights projects.

He studied journalism in the University of the Basque Country (EHU-UPV) and after graduating he moves to Barcelona to study photography at IEFC. With his first documentary photographic project, Rue 24, Phnom Penh, in which BREAK IN is based on, he gets the New FNAC Photography Talent Prize (2006). In the same year he gets a grant from Catalonia’s government, Clic, with which he makes Catalasians, a project about Asian people’s immigration movements into Catalonia. In 2008 he gets the Fotopres Grant of La Caixa Foundation. Thanks to this grant, he goes into -40°/96%, a project about the alcoholic homeless people of Ulan Bator, in Mongolia. In 2016 he wins with BREAK IN the 2nd prize of the Long Form Multimedia category in the World Press Photo contest.
