Kham Territory

In 2019 it will be 60 years since the forced departure of the Dalai Lama from Tibet and the beginning of his government from exile, specifically from Dharamsala, in northern India. Perhaps for this reason, the debate on the Chinese occupation of what is now known as the Autonomous Region of Tibet (RAT) and the right to independence of this people are again in the spotlight of some, not too many, media. We saw it again and again during the days that preceded the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008; activists in favour of the liberation of Tibet, assaulting the bearer of the Olympic torch, symbol of peace and justice among the peoples of the world.

All the images were taken in the Tibetan villages of the Chinese provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan, outside the TAR (Tibet Autonomous Region), an officially non-existent geographic-cultural circumscription called Kham, during the month of December, 2003.
